ENDEMIC countries Indonesia and Egypt will notify bird outbreaks officially only 6 monthly. Human cases and deaths are recorded as they occur.
Low-mild risk destinations
The following countries are considered low-mild risk due to localised transmission of bird to human disease:

Bangladesh |
First (and so far only) human case confirmed retrospectively in January 08. First poultry cases reported in March 2007 and further outbreaks controlled until early 2008 since when there have been extensive infections throughout the whole country. Control measures partially effective but new outbreaks continue to occur, the latest report being in June. |

Cambodia |
6 cases, all fatal in 2004. No reports until April 2007 when a 7th fatal case occurred in Kampong Cham province. Cases identified in backyard poultry early October2008. . New case of human infection detected in Kandal province on routine surveillance 11 December 2008. In December 2009 an outbreak occurred in backyard poultry in Kampong Cham province associated with one human. Outbreaks have occurred this year in Takeo and Prey Veng provinces the latter inlcuding one human fatality in April. Human cases now total 10 cases with 8 deaths. |

China |
Multiple reports of outbreaks since 2005 involving poultry and wild birds.In 2008 six outbreaks were reported in scattered areas from Tibet to Gangzhou. Human cases have also occurred every year since 2005. Five new cases have been detected in January 2009 of whom 3 have died bringing the totals to 39 human cases with 26 deaths. No new reports since in humans. Virus detected in wild birds in Tibet in June. |

Egypt |
Continuing activity since February 2006. Cases have largely involved domestic and backyard poultry and the disease as been declared ENDEMIC for the country therefore only 6-monthly reports of poultry outbreaks will be made. 31 new human cases were detected in 2009, and regular reports have been made this year, the latest recorded in April. Human cases total 109 with 34 deaths. |

Indonesia |
Infections occurring since 2005. The infection endemic on Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Bali islands with sporadic outbreaks reported elsewhere. According to the FAO village prevalence in Indonesia varies widely. Only 2 of its 33 provinces have not reported the occurence. Only 6-monthly reports of avian outbreaks are made with human cases reported as they occur. Since November 2008 there has been twenty new human cases, although there have been many newspaper reports of more suspected cases. Three cases with 2 fatalities have been confirmed in 2010. WHO figures as at 22 July2010 state a total of 167 cases with 138 deaths. |

Iraq |
3 confirmed human cases and 2 deaths in 2006. No reports in poultry until 2 March 2008 when infected birds found in Basra. |

Laos |
Infection confirmed retrospectively in August 2006. First two human cases notified in February 2007, both fatal. Outbreaks occurred in September 2008 and again in late January 2009 associated with movements during the Lunar New Year. No new human cases. |

Myanmar |
Declared free wef 4 September 2006 but new outbreak reported near Yangon February 2007 subsequently in south-eastern area, the Bago division and in Kentung in Eastern Shan state in November. One human case with recovery reported in Kengtung December 17 2007. One outbreak in February 2010 in Sagaing province. |

Nigeria |
First outbreak northern area January 2007 with one fatal human case. No new human infections reported but 4 scattered outbreaks in domestic birds during July 2008. Genetically new strain found in outbreaks in Katsina and Kano reported 11 August 2008. |

Pakistan |
First cases in poultry in April 2006. Further outbreaks in outbreaks in Rawalpindi , Sindh, the North western Province and Islamabad Capital Territory in 2007. Human-to-human cases were proven in 3 patients with one fatality. New poultry outbreaks in Sindh early in March and NW province in June. Declared resolved 25 September 2008. |

Thailand |
Transmission in birds over two years, 25 human cases with 17 deaths. One suspected person to person case. Two reports over 2007, two in January 2008 and new poultry cases identified in Sukhothai province in October 2008. No new human cases since 2006. |

Turkey |
12 cases resulting in 4 confirmed deaths in 2006. New infections in backyard poultry reported throughout 2007 in Batman province and again near Zonguldak in January 2008 and in Edirne in March. Reported resolved 14 April |

Vietnam |
Waves of infections in birds occurring since 2004. New cases in Mekong Delta provinces late December 2006 and early January 2007. Since May 2007 there have been outbreaks in most provinces. As at this date there are five unresolved outbreaks. 6 new human cases confirmed in 2009 and 2 new cases in Bac Can province this year.. Human cases total 119 with 59 deaths. |
