International travellers are at greater risk of acquiring influenza.

The risk of acquiring influenza depends on a range of factors, most importantly whether a traveller has been vaccinated. Annual seasonal vaccination will prevent most chances of getting human influenza.

The chance of acquiring avian influenza, is extremely low, and to date no travellers have developed this disease. However all travellers should be aware of the basic steps for prevention of avian influenza infection.

The current risk for Pandemic (swine flu) H1N1 2009 virus, is moderately high. Certainly travel to places of active outbreak is not recommended, and the situation is changing as the seasonal effects of weather may alter transmission patterens around the world.
